The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Ogun State command, reports that it has destroyed a six-hectare Indian hemp farm in the state's Alaka village as part of its ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
The command also stated that investigations were still underway and that four suspects had been taken into custody in relation to the illegal cultivation.
Tijani Rabe, the state commandant, revealed this during a press conference on Thursday in Abeokuta.
Rabe stated that 675 drug offenders were arrested in the year, but insisted that the conference is centered on the agency's 2024 performance report.
According to him, the command also seized 537.81 liters of illegal liquid-based substances and 9.7 tons of solid drugs.
“Operation Closed Gates was launched as part of our Yuletide strategy and has produced outstanding results,” he said.
"It effectively blocked access routes into the state by targeting drug merchants and syndicates."
In addition to enforcing the law, the NDLEA stepped up its public awareness efforts, implementing 128 sensitization programs in workplaces, communities, and schools.
"The agency estimates that 221 convictions against drug offenders were secured, and approximately 27,648 people benefited from these initiatives aimed at educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse," he continued.
