It was a shocking scene at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) busted two passengers arriving from Brazil with a disturbing cargo — not in their bags, but in their bodies.
The suspects, Ofoma Sunday and Ukachukwu Frank Ikechukwu, thought they had perfected the art of drug smuggling. But after their arrest, NDLEA officers placed them under strict observatory watch. Days later, the shocking truth came out: both men excreted a total of 116 wraps of heroin and cocaine, carefully concealed inside their stomachs.
Imagine the risk! Aside from the crime, these dangerous substances could have killed them instantly if even one wrap had burst inside their system. But greed, desperation, and the lure of quick money pushed them into this deadly gamble.
The NDLEA, however, had the last laugh. With swift intelligence and keen vigilance, they prevented what could have been another massive inflow of hard drugs into Nigerian communities.
Officials say this bust is part of an ongoing war against international drug cartels that constantly try to use Nigerian airports as their gateway. Both suspects are now under interrogation, as investigators dig deeper to expose the bigger syndicate behind the deal.
This latest arrest sends a clear message: the NDLEA is watching, and traffickers will always be caught.
