The Muslim Congress Condemns Killing of 16 Northern Travelers in Edo State

The Muslim Congress (TMC) has expressed deep sorrow over the brutal murder of 16 northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

In a statement issued by its Amir, Alhaji AbdulWasi’i Taiwo Bangbala, TMC urged affected communities to exercise restraint and resist the urge for retaliation.

"Violence only deepens wounds and perpetuates cycles of conflict. Instead, we must place our trust in the legal system and allow due process to ensure accountability," the statement read.

Describing the killings as a "senseless act of violence fueled by baseless accusations and mob hysteria," the council warned that the tragedy underscores the fragility of peace and the urgent need for unity and justice in the nation.

Extending condolences to the families of the victims, TMC stated: "We share in the grief of those who have lost their loved ones in such a horrific manner. We stand in solemn solidarity with them during this time of immense pain and call for immediate justice to prevent further breakdown of social order."

The organization further stressed that the incident in Uromi is not just a local tragedy but a national crisis that highlights the dangers of mob justice, ethnic profiling, and unchecked vigilante actions. "Every Nigerian citizen is entitled to safety, dignity, and fair treatment under the law," the statement added.

Condemning extrajudicial killings, TMC described them as "an affront to justice and a threat to the fabric of our nation."

"Mob killing is vile and absolutely unacceptable. Even in cases of suspicion, the only lawful course of action is to surrender suspects to the proper authorities, not to subject them to brutal violence," the council asserted.

TMC called for an urgent, thorough, and impartial investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure that such acts of barbarity are never repeated.
