Security officers from the Department of State Security (DSS) have captured two major suspects involved to the horrible murder of 16 northerners in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The arrests, conducted out in Uromi were based on genuine intelligence, although operations are still ongoing to track down additional persons implicated in the attack.
During an earlier condolence visit to Kano State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, revealed that 14 suspects had already been taken into custody and were being prepared for transfer to Abuja for additional questioning.
Governor Okpebholo assured the relatives of the victims during the visit that "justice will be delivered and those involved in the massacre will be brought to justice." He also promised people who lost loved ones that "appropriate compensation will be paid."
The two main suspects detained by the DSS have been sent to Abuja, where they will be subject to additional interrogation and prosecution by the relevant authorities, according to a later statement from the governor's media office in Edo State.
